2A+P/A is an architectural office established by Gianfranco Bombaci and Matteo Costanzo and based in Rome. The office works on architectural and landscape design and urban planning with a particular interest in the nature and conditions of public space, and it engages in a broad range of activities including public and private buildings, housing complexes, urban spaces, event pavilions and temporary installations.
The office’s two partners have participated in international design competitions in which they have been awarded prizes and received honourable mention, and they have presented their work at several conferences and symposia. Their writings and production have been presented in published form in a variety of international books and magazines such asA10, Abitare, a+t, A+U, Architecture d’aujourd’hui , Architectural Review, Domus andVolume.
They also forward their research through publishing initiatives like the architecture magazine San Rocco. The architects of 2A+P/A have publicly presented their projects at and realized site-specific installations for several international exhibitions, such as the NAI in Rotterdam, the 13th and 11th Venice Architecture Biennale, the 5th Brasilia Biennal of Architecture and Shanghai Expo 2010 inside the Italian Pavilion.
Their work was also showcased in a solo exhibition in Rome entitled The Pop Out Show. 2A+P/A’s collaborators have included Carla Accardi, Baukuh, Stefano Boeri, Andrea Branzi, Yona Friedman, IaN+, Id-Lab, Marazzi Architetti, ma0, Nabito, Marialuisa Palumbo, Salottobuono and T-Spoon.
Gianfranco Bombaci (b.1975 Rome). He graduates in 2003 at the Sapienza University of Architecture in Rome. He studied at KU University in Leuven. In 1998 he cofounded the2A+P magazine and from 2005 to 2008 he has been partner of the firm 2A+P architettura. He became PhD Architect in Environmental Design in 2008, starting a consulting activity on environmental and energy saving design strategies. Frome 2009 to 2011 he teached Landscape Design at the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara. Actually he is Coordinator of the Interior Design course at IED Rome. Since 2009 he is one of the two partners of architecture practice 2A+P/A.
Matteo Costanzo (b.1973 Rome). He graduates in 2003 at the Sapienza University of Architecture in Rome. He studied at the “Brooks” University in Oxford. In 1998 he cofounded the 2A+P magazine and in 2000 he won the first prize with the project Sand City in the international competition City:Third millennium held by 7th Architecture Biennale in Venice. From 2005 to 2008 he has been partner of the firm 2A+P architettura. From 2009 he is one of the two partners of the architecture firm 2A+P/A. He is now attending a PhD course in architecture at Sapienza University of Architecture in Rome.
